Business ManagerResponsible to: Springboard Manager
Responsible for: Support Officer, Finance Officer, Administrative staff at Clevedon and Weston, Clevedon Centre Handyman
Base: Springboard Clevedon Centre
Hours of work: 4 days per week
Salary: Scale point 98-110 (currently £24,035.61 to £26,978.75) pro-rata
Job purpose:- To maximise income to maintain and further develop Springboard’s services and to improve its financial resilience and sustainability.
- To ensure the smooth and effective financial and administrative operation of the organisation.
Principal responsibilities:1. Business development- Identify and develop opportunities that increase Springboard’s restricted and unrestricted income including corporate sponsorship, trading, grant-making trusts and foundations and individual donors.
- Lead the development of new and existing programmes, projects and services.
- Develop and maintain positive partnerships with statutory agencies that offer grants and/or commissioning opportunities.
- Manage bids for grants and service delivery commissions/contracts.
- Develop trading opportunities, including delivery of training.
- Prepare, monitor, review and regularly update Springboard’s Business Plan.
2. Finance- Ensure that Springboard’s financial and payroll systems and controls are kept up-to-date and are adhered to.
- Prepare and monitor Springboard’s annual budget and project budgets using appropriate cost centres.
- Prepare monthly income and expenditure accounts for presentation to the Springboard Manager and Trustees.
- Liaise with Springboard’s external auditor and prepare financial records for annual audit.
- Submit annual returns to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
- Monitor commissioning agreements and report to commissioners as required.
3. Promotion and fundraising- Draw up and monitor annual promotion and fundraising programmes.
- Maintain resources and systems that support Springboard’s business development and fundraising activities.
- Identify appropriate grant-makers (including the National Lottery, trusts and foundations) that could potentially support Springboard projects.
- Prepare and submit funding applications.
- Monitor grant funded programmes and report to funders as required.
- Recruit and manage part-time staff and/or consultants providing promotions and fundraising support. Manage any remitted time allocated to established staff for promotions and fundraising support.
- Develop and manage a communications strategy to keep parents/carers, relevant decision makers and supporters informed about Springboard and to maintain their interest and involvement.
- Ensure that Springboard’s website is kept up-to-date and its home page is regularly changed to provide contemporary news and information for its readers.
- Promote Springboard in the local media through regular press releases, interviews etc.
- Encourage individuals to support Springboard through regular giving (e.g. monthly, quarterly or annual direct debit).
4. Consultation and Engagement- Ensure Friends of Springboard develops a role as a consultative body to provide evidence of user views about services to inform the development and improvement of these services and meet the requirements of commissioners.
- Develop and manage a strategy to engage parents/carers in all relevant aspects of the work of Springboard including service review, fundraising and parent/carer support.
- Develop opportunities for parents/carers and other supporters as volunteers in non playroom capacities e.g. promotions, premises related work.
5. Administration and HR- Ensure that Springboard’s administrative and HR policies and procedures are kept up-to-date and are adhered to, e.g. health and safety, environmental, staff recruitment, disciplinary procedures, pensions etc
- Ensure the smooth and efficient running of Springboard’s office and reception facilities.
- Ensure that Springboard’s premises are kept in a safe and tidy state.
- Ensure all administrative staff have an appropriate level of competence in IT to ensure they are able to perform their roles efficiently. Work with the Springboard Manager to ensure that playroom staff have appropriate levels of IT competence for their roles.
